| The Founders of this Lodge have a place in its
history for all time, and no one can take this from them nor would anyone wish to do so,
but it must be said that there were many other Brethren in those early days, and many more
since those days, who have given equally well of their time and their talents to Lodge
Douglas, without the champagne-like exhilaration which prevailed at the time of our
consecration.
Inevitably the enthusiasm waned, the problems increased and the clash of wills and personalities (WHICH WAS UNAVOIDABLE IN SUCH A WIDE CROSS SECTION OF MASONIC TALENTS) sapped the crusading spirit of the Lodge. It was then that many of the early members stumbled and fell, and new stalwarts stepped forward to carry the torch of light on into the future for Lodge Douglas. The Ultimate Honour in the Lodge is to attain the office of R.W.M. and this honour has been equally shared between 10 Founder Members, 2 Affiliate Members and 13 Initiates of Lodge Douglas. Amongst these groups (Founders, Affiliates and Initiates) are many Brethren who did not aspire to the Chair of the Lodge, but gave unstintingly of their loyal support throughout the years. It was by their presence, their enthusiasm and their encouragement that the Lodge formed its character, its atmosphere and its purpose. Some of them are now deceased, others no longer manage to attend but fortunately for the Lodge a good proportion still give of their best, in some cases even after 25 years. To all of those extraordinary members throughout the years must go our sincere and grateful thanks and we should always remember.
