Altar Badge
The foundation of our Lodge was irrevocably tied to that period in Scotland's history when
the Scottish Covenantors were giving their lives in the cause of Freedom of Worship. Our
founders therefore felt the need to adopt this background, partly because of the local
historical background with the Covenantors, but mainly to re-affirm our Masonic
believes of " Faith and Trust in God" and also the need to recognise
anothers right to worship as he or she sees fit. The Cameronians Regiment, which was
raised to protect the Covenanting worshippers from those who would deny them this right,
is itself tied for all time to the cause of Freedom and Worship. In the late sixties,
almalgamation was the name of the game as far as many of the famous Scottish Regiments
were concerned and some of them opted to do so.
The Cameronians, as unswerving as
ever, chose to disband rather than almalgamate, thus on the 14th. May 1968 the Regiment was
disbanded at Douglas in Lanarkshire and people from all walks of life and all parts of the
globe came to pay their respects and last tributes.
At this time Lodge Douglas contacted the Cameronian Headquarters expressing our sadness at
the end of an era, and also requesting some momento of the Regiment which we might add to
our furnishings to help keep alive the proud name of the Cameronians, and also to remind
us that those rights and privileges enjoyed by all today, were gained by the sacrifice and
devotion to duty of others.
The Cameronians presented the Lodge with the Cameronian Soldiers Cap complete with the
badge, which shows the Star of the Douglases and features a Light Infantry Bugle also. It
is now displayed in our Lodge attached to our Altar Cloth, upon which rests our V.S.L. A
proud symbol of brave men and women, but also a symbol of those ideals which we as
Freemasons hold so dear.

Faith and Trust in God.
